  • A Thermo Siphon system is a system where the geyser is installed at least 300mm higher than the top of the solar collector’s manifold.
  • The geyser can be installed inside or outside the roof.

  • The reason for this is to use the natural phenomenon that hot water always raises. The outlet of the solar collector must be as close as possible and lower that the inlet port to the geyser. This will ensure that there will be a natural flow of hot water from the manifold to the geyser.
  • In this moment in time NuPower Thermo Siphon systems can only use direct / open loop geysers.
  • When using a direct / open loop system and water quality is under suspicion, do a water analysis at a lab to determine the water quality. The water should have less than 600ppm of Total Dissolved Solids / Minerals.  Please take notice that clogging with lime deposits in the manifold can be a problem in the long run. Rather use an Indirect Split system to avoid this problem.
  • No pump or controller is used in this system.
  • A steam release valve must be installed at the manifold’s outlet.
  • The Thermo Siphon systems are used in applications where it is easy / possible to make an installation with the geyser higher than the manifold. The geyser can be on top of the roof or inside the roof.

NOTE: THERE MUST BE ENOUGH SPACE ON THE ROOF AND INSIDE           THE ROOF TO HAVE THE GEYSER 300MM HIGHER THAN THE SOLAR PANEL FOR SELL A THERMO SIPHON SYSTEM.

The client does not qualify for an Eskom rebate on a thermo siphon system
